The Silence of Ageing Seminar Brought Together an International Audience to Explore Loneliness
The The Silence of Ageing online seminar, held on Monday, brought together experts and participants from around the world to discuss loneliness – a phenomenon that affects us all, but especially older adults.
The event attracted an audience from more than 11 countries. Throughout the day, participants heard a range of insightful and expert presentations from different parts of the world.
The seminar featured Professor Elisa Tiilikainen’s keynote, Unravelling the Nature of Loneliness, as well as presentations from experts in Japan, the United Kingdom, and Finland. The programme was further enriched by video presentations highlighting Finnish initiatives working with older adults, including Susanna Leinonen Company, Circus Magenta, and Dj Börje.
The seminar concluded with a panel discussion that explored various dimensions of loneliness and how arts and cultural activities can support participation and social connection. The panel also considered how different programmes can reach diverse groups and shared practical examples of using the arts to reduce loneliness.
We warmly thank all speakers, performers, partners, and audience members. The seminar recording will be published soon on the Helsinki Channel.
